@dracosummoner: truly.

and speaking on sales. when I went to pre-order Muramasa/Metroid Prime Trilogy, the saleswoman goes "good call."

I said, "yea, these games look sweet, right?"

she said, "no, I meant good call cuz we won't be ordering many copies of these so unless you pre-order it will be hard to get them."

first of all, I never seem to have a hard time buying any game off the shelf. but this is the approach these companies are taking. and people complain when (quality) Wii games don't have high sales.
the stores aren't even stocking them properly!

it's not an accident that when GameStop wants to push a game they put 4 copies of it in a row on the shelf. it's just marketing. doesn't that give the game a validation?
but when you just see one copy of a game on the shelf it is ENTIRELY lost in the clutter - don't you think??

anyway, she then concluded the conversation by asking if I wanted to pre-order a PS3 game that was coming out recently - as if I must want that if I wanted these silly Wii games.

of course, she plays DS behind the counter on her breaks.... so I know she isn't anti-Nintendo. many people love the DS.
she just has no respect for the Wii.

I've also been right next to a Gamestop employee when a clueless mom (classic, right?) came in saying her son wanted a Wii and some game and he tried to talk her out of it!!
he literally said "the Wii doesn't really have much for gamers... so if he really enjoys video games you may want to consider an XBox360"

... it breaks my little gamer heart that this is what the culture of gaming has come to. #brandish

@Crash__Man:

That's a terrible policy for an employee to have, I'm sorry. Besides the sheer pragmatic worth of "business is business," I find it truly bizarre that your 'friend' couldn't understand that you "enjoy what [you] enjoy."

Someone else on Kotaku posted this a few days ago, and even a spirit of "sarcasm," especially when the original poster half-believes the statement anyway, doesn't really seem to justify it:

"Besides, the wii is for little kids, girls, and people that can't afford a more hardcore console... nuff said" #brandish

@dracosummoner: yea, he was behind the register as I was buying a game.

it's not exactly an isolated problem though.

I don't look like a soccer mom, nor do I have small children, so when I go shopping in the Wii section game store employees are always wondering why I am not in to pre-order Uncharted or something.

it's annoying and I would do anything I could to change this culture to one that just let's us enjoy what we enjoy. #brandish
